Unauthorized reoccurring payments

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was stopped leaving a store by one of their donation tables I decided to make a 1 time donation of $30. I was very clear it was a 1 time donation. I then found a reoccurring payment on my statement. They got away with 3 extra months of payments. I am pissed!

Deceptive Practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I too was approached outside a business in Austin Tx. I was first asked to purchase the backpack. Being the Christmas season, I agreed. But then they brought up the $30 donation. I told them to choose as I was only doing one thing. They said the $30 because it helped more kids. I was thinking I have the money in my checking. I dont want to add to my credit card balance. So like a dummy who should know better, because I work at a bank, I gave them my debit card. I was also promised an email receipt I never received. After I left, I realized how stupid I had been and once the transaction hit my account, I turned my debit card off. I also turned on notifications so anytime I used my card, I would be notified. Most credit cards have this ability as well. After a week with no other activity from ChildHelp, I turned my card back on. Just got notification they charged my account again. Talked to our fraud department. They cancelled my debit card. That was not a problem. We recommend you never use your debit card for recurring charges because it is hard to get them stopped. So canceling was not going to cause other problems. A fraud report will be completed to get the extra $30 back. I see the responses from ChildHelp and cannot help but believe it is a scam because they seem to have WAY too many untrained employees/volunteers and these reports continue to happen.

Scam. Recurring Charges.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My "one-time donation" was charged on a recurring basis and I never received an email receipt for my purchase. I called the number on the credit card statement and have yet to hear back. Seeing these other reviews, I am certain it is a scam. I am reporting to AZ Attorney General (where they are based) and CO AG (where I was scammed). If they got you too I recommend doing the same. Longer summary - After leaving the farmer's market where I live and walking to our car, my spouse and I passed a small table outside the market where someone asked if we would be willing to donate to ChildHelp, which they alleged helps child victims of abuse. I agreed to donate $30 - a one time purchase. I was told I would receive an email receipt. I never did. I realized that I have been charged $30/monthly since then ($90 total beyond the initial $30 donation). I called the number listed on the credit card purchased and was directed to leave a voicemail. I did not hear back. I searched online and see that many others have fallen victim to this scam. My credit card company is paying back the lost $90 fortunately, but not the initial $30. Nor do I have a receipt to write the initial 30 off on my taxes. Given the online reviews, it is clear this was not a mistake by their billing department, but rather, a scam. When I searched online I discovered they are based in AZ so I am filing the complaint in AZ and CO. As an adult survivor of child abuse, I am disgusted.

I'm so sorry that was your experience, Rachael. Truly not the feeling we want anyon to walk away with.

Can you also email us at gifts@***.org. The email address is stated in the voicemail too. We can help right away to get this resolved.

Your gift is not a scam, monthly sponsorships help to support programs like the National Child Abuse Hotline 1800 4 A CHILD but if you did not intend for it be ongoing we can get that corrected. I'll keep an eye out for your voicemail and email.

Ran into them at a coffee shop. Person explained I could donate once with a supply purchase or monthly with a card. I donated monthly. Great cause. Used my own phone to pay and everything! Glad they stopped me. Also got a receipt and a way to cancel should I want to in the future. Really a neat way to do things.

My family and I were approached by a representative of ChildHelp and I was convinced into a one time donation of $30. Months later while reviewing my credit card statement I noticed that I have been charged $30 monthly by this charity. I was never told by the representative or via email that I signed up for a monthly donation. This charity is dishonest and criminal. Avoid at all costs.

You ***

I told your representative that I was only willing to make a one time donation of 30 dollars. And I thought she understood my seriousness.

But somehow, someway, someone mistook me for a fool. I assure you, Im the opposite. Im going to need a full cancellation of whatever subscription you have me signed up for without my consent, and Im going to need a receipt/transcript of every transaction/attempt to charge me after my initial donation.

Call me immediately,

Keep walking !

ChildHelp - Keep walking !
I was walking out of a restaurant and a guy with an iPad outside of a restaurant and stopped me. I usually never engage with people who are promoting or selling things at booths. But I saw it said help fund the hotline for abused children. So I stopped and he had backpacks but I didnt want a backpack so he said did I want to pay $30 ONE TIME FEE to the child abuse hotline and to support. I was like of course ! I didnt have cash so I paid for the service through his iPad /tablet with my credit card. He said I would get an email and receipt. I later checked like a hour later and I did get an email. Sadly I was signed up for a monthly $30 subscription. I immediately emailed them at gifts@***.org someone named Lindsey immediately responding and refunded my $30 and said she would cancel the $30 monthly subscription. I guess I wont know if the subscription is cancelled until next month. I do see the $30 I paid today refund being processed. I just feel scammed and Im glad but shocked to see how others have been scammed. I will be reporting this to my state. Never ever give your money especially credit card/debit card out ! Just do your own research and donate online to the profit on your own time and own will !!! Such a scam. I am glad I caught it now

Same story here. I made a one-time donation of $20 to provide a backpack. Little did I know they would use the card a paid with to enroll me in an unauthorized $10 a month donation! A small enough amount to not notice a discrepancy in my bill at the end of the month. Of course this is how these scammers get paid And I was ironically a victim of abuse trying to donate to victims of abuse. I feel sorry for people representing this organization. I too was reviewing my statements to find places to cut expenses, and I too was shocked to see a random Childhelp monthly charge of $10. So very sad. Now looking at legal options even though they tried to cover their bases by sending a generic hidden monthly donation message. Really sad.

I am disputing a charge made under fraudulent pretenses. I was approached to donate money, I am a single mother of 3 daughters driving JUNK car to work and felt pressured and manipulated to donate while on my lunch break trying to look at flowers at a flower shop! I agreed to $20. I was VERY surprised to find $21.65 was taken from my account, not $20. Tax was NOT mentioned. Nor was the rating your company has for taking money without authorization for months on end from unsuspecting donators. I need my $21.65 returned back to my checking account, and am revoking authorization for a single penny to be taken from me ever again.
